BEVERLY JOHNSON

Experience: I have been licensed as a professional counselor since 2013 and have had extensive experience working in a variety of settings. Some of my roles have included: Providing outpatient therapy in a recovery center, providing community mental health services to uninsured clients, providing intensive in-home services to high risk populations, providing outpatient therapy in a private group practice to adults, and currently providing confidential counseling services as an embedded counselor to active duty military service members. As a side job, I offer telehealth services to adults in a private group practice.

Awards/Service: I completed one year of service for Pro Bono Counseling Network, a project of Mental Health America of the Triangle providing free short-term counseling available to North Carolina residents who live in four neighboring counties.

Desired populations: I work completely remote and offer telehealth services to adults in states in which I am licensed to practice.

Treatment modalities: My primary treatment modalities are ACT, Existential, Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness. I believe that learning how our thoughts affect our perspective is essential to creating happier and more fulfilling lives. Cultivating awareness is key to recognizing how our thoughts affect our behavior. I use a nonjudgmental, empathic approach to facilitate awareness, offer skills to work with difficult emotions, and explore attitudes, beliefs, and values to help clients live more meaningful lives.

Personal interests, passions or hobbies: My passions include: travel, the beach, learning, audio-books, art, spending time with family and friends, and trying new restaurants.
