DR. JOHN LORANGER

Experience: I bring over 40 years of experience to my work as a therapist, having practiced across college campuses, private practice, and military installations both in the U.S. and abroad. As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by service members, veterans, and their families. Over the years, I’ve worked with adolescents and adults from all walks of life, offering both in-person and telehealth counseling to help clients navigate stress, trauma, and life transitions with compassion and purpose.

Training & Certifications:

  • Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Developmental Counseling – Vanderbilt University
  • Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Psychology – Northwestern State University

Awards & Publications:
My work has been published internationally, including my dissertation “Personality Subsystems of Surgical versus Non-Surgical Chronic Low Back Pain Patients” and a contribution to the Handbook of Medical Psychotherapy: Cost-Effective Strategies in Mental Health (Hogrefe & Huber, 1991).

Desired Populations:
I enjoy working with individuals ages 16 and up and have a particular passion for supporting young adults, college students, and military populations. My approach focuses on understanding each person’s unique perspective and helping them move toward balance, clarity, and growth in their lives.

Treatment Modalities:
I use an integrative approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Positive Psychology, mindfulness, and holistic wellness practices to promote emotional and physical well-being.

Specialties / Issues Treated:
I work with ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, stress-related and adjustment disorders, chronic pain, trauma, grief, and life transitions.

Personal Interests, Passions, or Hobbies:
Travel has always been a passion of mine. I’ve been fortunate to live and work abroad in Germany and explore much of Europe along the way. My personal experiences, including caring for loved ones with cancer, have shaped my appreciation for mindfulness, resilience, and meaningful connection. I believe change is possible at any stage of life when it’s grounded in empathy, understanding, and collaboration.
